When it comes to the garment industry, supporting the local initiatives is something that I deem very important. Which is why I would like to tell to you about boutique Quartier Mode. Founded by two Montreal fashion designers, Quartier Mode - which in French means "neighbourhood fashion" - is all about supporting local fashion talent all the while building a sense of community. Situated in the heart of Plateau Mont Royal (my cool neighbourhood), Quartier Mode carries numerous Canadian designers who all produce their garments locally.
Last night, on the occasion of the launch of Spring 2012 collection of Birds of North America, Quartier Mode threw a party. While imbibing a little bubbly and feasting on bird-decorated cup cakes, we got to meet the lovely designer Hayley Gibson and browse through her popular line of vintage-classic clothing for women. Inspired by her childhood in Western Canada, Hailey has built her following by designing and producing impeccably constructed and flattering garments. The showcased (and seriously discounted) pieces were an array of nautically-inspired sun dresses and skirts made of the softest cotton. Needless to say I simply couldn't resist getting one - the pink gingham dress. Which was just so serendipitous because I have been on the lookout for a gingham dress.
An added bonus to the lovely soiree: I also got to meet and chat with the fellow Montreal bloggers, Ariane and her daughter Izzy. They are even lovelier in person.
